BFG!

It's Mum's birthday this week. Actuall today, but owing to people working and all of that, we're celebrating on Sunday, with, wait for it, Sunday Lunch!!!

Yeah. Real good old fashioned Sunday lunch. The type we used to eat every week, before we grew up and life took over.

In our family Sunday Lunch was a big deal. Is a big deal. Ok, so yes a lot of that big deal was fierce arguments, shouting and yelling like no tomorrow, and Dad doing the big patriarchal bit, but that's in the past. We preserved the good bits, and we enjoy them still today. The whole family around a table, eating, laughing - god I sound like a Hollywood movie.

Seriously though it drives me mad that no one seems to eat Sunday lunch anymore - are they crazy? I know we all have lives and are busy and stuff, but if we loose Sunday lunch, we loose a huge part of what family life is all about. It's sitting properly at a table, eating fabulous food and talking to each other. Imagine what it would be like to grow up and not have those memories, even if the memories aren't of 100% perfect family life. I'd rather have the bruises so to speak than nothing at all.

So what are we having? Lamb. Roast leg of lamb, with garlic and rosemary, roast potatos, beetroot I hope (depends on whether Martin remembered to buy any!) either spinach or steamed cabbage, carrots I expect - onion sauce for sure, mint sauce, and gravy. Gravy made with the juices from the pan, and loads of red wine, vegetable water.
